Schedule your Version 9.0 Program Update
Version 9.0 is in wide release and we’re installing program updates, so please contact email@example.com to make your update appointment. Remember that the new Zipfirst database and InterLink Email/Online feature for the release year are included with each year’s program license. If you’re on the CUS Maintenance Plan or renting CUS software you’re already entitled to all new program versions. If you bought CUS in recent months your purchase probably included the Version 9.0 license. All other users should contact Ellen at firstname.lastname@example.org for an upgrade quote
Version 9.0 Program Highlights
Multiple email messages for invoices – Use one for Prebills, a different message for unpaid Invoices and a separate message when sending a Rebill that’s paid in full. Control which message to use at the Billing screen.
Custom buyer invoice layouts – Design your own layout and we’ll build it for you. Choose which formats to use for each auction.
More custom document options – Landscape layouts, legal or A4 paper sizes, custom catalogue, lot tag and label formats too.
Expanded Audit Log Features – View log activity by ID number in Auction and Inventory. Easily view Mail and Inventory logs from previous months.
Sale Bills – Create your online advertising flyer, with pictures and post it online directly from the Inventory System! Display your highlights by category or any order you choose long before your auction catalogue is ready. You don’t need lot numbers for a Sale Bill.
Send emails through Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail – Buyer invoices, consignor statements and announcements in bulk even if you don’t have Microsoft Outlook.
Expanded Query features with “Tag” functions – Tag individual items or people and include them in a Query even if they don’t meet any other criteria; attach a tag to all records from one Query and include them in a different Query process.
Run global “Fix Up” data corrections on Query results – You can correct data globally on the results of a Query instead of all records in a file.
More reports are exportable – Including Consignor Statement Summary Report. There are also more functions in Buyer Analysis Reports to find all sales to online buyers or all “no sales” for multiple auctions.
Custom form examples on CUS website
Do you know that CUS can help you with many of the forms you need to complete in every auction? Vehicle title transfers, bills of sale and tax exemption certificates are just a few of the documents that take a lot of your time. Let CUS take that drudgery off your hands!
Our revamped website has a new section displaying some of our most popular custom forms. Go to https://cus.wpengine.com/webpress-forms/?source=email and get some ideas.
CUS Client Workshop set for Sacramento
The CUS Client Workshop schedule resumes for 2013 with classes in Northern and Southern California and in the Northeast. The next workshop will be in Sacramento, CA on Wednesday, Feb. 27. We’ll have a Los Angeles area workshop in March, on a date to be determined soon. If you’re interested in a session in any of these locations, contact Ellen for details at 954.680.6545 or email@example.com.
Try the CUS Online Auction
You can see a sample of the CUS Online Auction here:
Visitors see your own privately branded auction that blends in with the rest of your company’s image. Choose your color scheme with your own logo and select the layout of the new opening page with pictures of featured lots. There’s a new photo slideshow display, bidding from the individual lot detail page and a “Watch this lot” feature too! Your bidders can receive a daily email to keep up with the status of their bids and watched lots.
Of course, the CUS Online Auction is still a seamless extension of your regular CUS Auction System, with one-click uploads and photo management built right in. There’s no need to import or export data because it’s all in one system. Add a new lot or a few pictures at any time, adjust your opening bid amounts, or change the closing date. See who is looking at your auction at any time and watch your bids streaming live. You can display sales results when the auction is finished if you like. Everything is in CUS and it’s all under your control.
It’s easy to publish a searchable catalogue with dozens of pictures too, allowing pre-registration and absentee bidding in advance if you like. Why send your visitors to another company’s site to see YOUR catalogue? The clutter and advertising take attention away from your important event, and you know how easily visitors can get lost or distracted. Contact Ellen at 954.680.6545 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and a private demo of the new CUS Online Auction.
From the Technical Support Team
New Zipfirst Databases are available for download
A new Zipfirst database is now available at the Version 9.0 Client Support Center. If you are licensed for Version 9.0, you can access that center and download the new database, using the Version 9.0 Username and Password. The new file is called zipdata9.exe.
The last Zipfirst database for the Version 8.0 product release year is still available for download on the Version 8.0 Client Support Center page. The Version 8.0 database is good through March 31, 2013. If you are still licensed for Version 8.0 you are welcome to download and install it now. You will need the Version 8.0 Username and Password to access the Client Support Center. If you need help with either procedure, please contact Steve at email@example.com for assistance.
Links to CUS Online Auctions and Catalogues
Be careful when you create the link on your website that will take your customers to the online auction or catalogue. It’s important to use the exact URL that is provided in your auction profile because it’s a “clean” address. The correct address for the Welcome “Splash” page is shown in your profile where you can easily copy it to a Notepad file.
Whenever you look at the online auction in your browser and navigate from page to page, the URL page address accumulates session ID codes to help track where you’ve recently been in that catalogue. Don’t bookmark that page as a Favorite in your browser to use for the link in your website or to include in a marketing email. It will affect your customer’s navigation through the auction catalogue. Always use the clean URL we generate for the “Splash” page as shown in your auction profile. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more guidance.
Advantage Database Server for CUS
Many of our larger network installations have the more robust “client/server” edition of CUS that uses the Advantage Database Server engine as its foundation. This enables networked CUS applications to run more securely in wireless or remote access environments. If you have a large network with a Windows Server or are planning to expand, you may be a candidate for the CUS ADS Server edition.
Whether you have ADS Server installed or not, it’s very important to contact CUS before upgrading your server or installing a new one. If you have an older ADS Server version, you may need an ADS update before installing a newer Windows Server.
CUS on Windows 7 or 8 Operating Systems
We’re continuing to test the current Version 9.0 CUS release on Windows 8 and have not seen any serious issues yet. The user interface in Windows 8 is very different from Windows 7 or XP. It will require some patience to get used to it. Be prepared for the possibility that some of your devices (printers, scanners etc.) may not be compatible at all.
If you are replacing computers in the near future, we recommend you try to get Windows 7 while you still can, especially for staffers who aren’t comfortable with new computer environments. Windows 7 systems are still available online but may not be easy to find in your local retail store. We’re not ready to fully certify Windows 8 yet for all situations, but if you must install a Windows 8 computer, it should be fine for CUS Version 9.0. Before buying the new computer, contact Steve at 954.680.6545 or email@example.com for advice.
To run CUS on Windows 7 or 8 computers, there are some Windows Registry changes that are necessary. We have a utility file called smboff.zip available to take care of this. A Windows 7 or 8 network must use classic Workgroup networking for CUS instead of Homegroup. This requires Windows 7 Home Premium or higher for any computer on a network. In Windows 8, this may require 8 Professional. Please contact Steve at firstname.lastname@example.org for guidance.
In general, Windows 7 is compatible with current CUS for Windows releases. This only pertains to CUS Versions 7.0 and higher, not older CUS versions. As we described above, Windows 8 seems to be acceptable at first, but we are only testing it on CUS Versions 9 and higher.
Note: DOS versions of CUS are NOT compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8 or Vista at all. If you are still licensed for a DOS-only version of CUS, you will have to stay with Windows XP until you update to CUS for Windows.
Contact email@example.com for further information before buying any new computers, especially if you aren’t licensed for CUS Version 7.0 or higher.
Reminder for DOS Clients
While we continue to support DOS versions of CUS when possible, we can’t guarantee that DOS technical support is always available outside daytime business hours, especially for authorization codes. We’ll try to help if you have an emergency, but can’t promise we will have all the tools needed to do so outside the office.
Contacting Technical and Web Support
When you send a question by email about CUS software, please send it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org instead of any individual person. If the person you’ve sent it to isn’t available, your question will be seen by the other members of our team and someone will be able to help you. The same is true about website questions or requests. Send them to email@example.com, not to any individual person. Otherwise your request could be missed if that person isn’t able to get mail or is unavailable.
If you don’t get an answer to your emailed question in a day or two, follow up with a phone call to our office at 954.680.6545. It’s possible that your email got trapped by a spam or other type of junk filter and didn’t get through to us.
Of course, if you have an emergency, don’t rely on email at all. Call us right away at 954.680.6545 (daytime) or 954.483.6778 (night/weekend).
Technical Support via Remote Access
If you need any technical support from CUS and you’re not comfortable navigating around on a computer, we can handle everything for you. All you need is an internet connection to let us log in remotely and temporarily take over to get the job done. You control when we can get in and when to disconnect from us. We can troubleshoot most network issues, install CUS on your computer and manage data updates from older CUS versions.
There’s a link to our live remote support connection from the CUS Version 6 7 and 8 Support Centers. Your Version 6, 7 and 8 CUS Systems also have direct links to the Support Center from the Help Menu. Since this is live real-time support, you need to arrange this with us before connecting, so that a consultant is available to work with you.
Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Software
We strongly recommend that you maintain good anti-virus and anti-spyware programs on all computers in your business. It’s important to keep the licenses up to date and get the latest virus definitions every day. Set up your anti-virus software so that it doesn’t actively scan any CUS-related folders or files during the day since that slows down your CUS system operation. Schedule a full system scan each night or early in the morning before you begin to work. We recommend and use Vipre Anti-virus. You can find the link on our website at www.cus.com/counterspy.cfm. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
